Last Bird Home was a special album for me, as it featured so many of my favorite musicians, and showcased my writing through lush, fully realized arrangements. So when it came time to design a cover, I wanted it to be as distinctive as possible.
I did two paintings for this project. Both were square images measuring 16" which I painted on 16" x 20" canvas (because that's what I had in late 2011). I feel like I was working with oils, though it's been so long that I could be mistaken about that.
This was the first of two paintings. And its background orange/blue sky was the one I used for the official release. The birds were done a day later than the sky, and these guys were not included on the CD cover. Those were part of a separate painting, that I dare say I've lost in the two moves and one decade since.
This is a one of a kind painting, that will never be reproduced. The oddity of its dimensions may disqualify it as a wall hanging, but I would be glad to fill the blank space with lyrics from the album if the buyer requests it.
